It may be possible to reinforce the Caribou rack in such a way so that it can withstand the normal wear and tear that comes with adventure riding.  The tongue depressors in the pictures I've posted here show places were a strut or a gusset could be welded to the rack without interfering with the quick release of the Pelican cases.  This may be enough to prevent the rack from falling apart.
